Lady Golden Eagles lose final game of regular season
The Eastern Maine Community College Women's basketball team's season has not gone as planned this year but Wednesday they were looking to finish their season on a high note. The Lady Golden Eagles losers of 8 out of their last 10 games traveled to Machias Wednesday to take on the (6-16) UMM Clippers, winners of 4 out of their last 10.
The first half did not start out how EMCC would have liked. They went nearly five minutes without scoring a field goal before Kara Hebert hit a 3-pointer with 10:01 remaining to bring them within three. Unfortunately for the Eagles this trend continued for the remainder of the first half. Even with the field goal droughts EMCC only found themselves down by seven at the half, thanks to 25 percent shooting by UMM.
The Lady Golden Eagles battled back in the second half and got as close as 27-30 when Kylee Fogg knocked down a three pointer four minutes in. EMCC was not within striking distance for long due to Venessa Patterson aggressive play, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. UMM picked up their defense in the closing minutes forcing 10 turnovers and not allowing EMCC to score a field goal for nearly eight minutes.
For the Eagles, Fogg scored a season high 16 points and snagged 5 steals. Carolyn Bess chipped in with a solid double-double, scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior Emma LeGallais filled the stat sheet for UMM scoring 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 8 steals.
With the win the Lady Clippers improve to 7-7 in the Conference and capture the 6th seed in the elite 8 playoffs. The Lady Golden Eagles 2-12 in the Conference and come up short making the Elite 8.
